About

"The most dangerous thing a business leader can develop isn't a bigger budget. It's Advantage Thinking — the ability to outthink every competitor in the room." That's what I build. In organizations, in leaders, and in myself — across 30 years, 100+ brands, and every category imaginable. I've rebranded a country, won at the world's most prestigious advertising and effectiveness awards, and delivered the kind of growth that makes CFOs emotional — including 3x revenue in 3 years and 2 turnarounds. 20+ at the world's best agencies taught me that one powerful idea can change everything. I never stopped believing it. I just started applying it to P&Ls instead of award shows. The brands that shaped the thinking: Visa across 126 countries, Adobe's move into the digital age, a Disney/Pixar collaboration, and P&G — then took those lessons into the boardroom. My superpower is identifying a brand's core power — the thing that is irreplaceable, differentiated, and deeply resonant with the right audience — and then expanding that power into growth. The approach is always the same: find the sharp idea that unlocks the market, then build the commercial engine around it. I don't slot into cultures. I help build them. The most important thing a CMO can do isn't run campaigns — it's establish the standard of thinking that everything else follows. I've done that at companies from $350M to $1.2B, in startups and turnarounds, across categories and continents. The output is always the same: a team that thinks bigger, moves faster, and wins more. And in an age where AI has given every company access to the same data, the same insights, and the same execution tools, thinking is now the last true competitive advantage. One sharp idea, in the right place, can unlock a chain reaction that no amount of optimization ever could. None of this came from a classroom. It was forged through trial, error, and hard-won wisdom — across a life that has survived bomb blasts, Palisades fires, and Michelin-starred kitchens. The wins, the failures, the pivots, and the breakthroughs — that accumulated learning is what I bring to every organization I work with. I work with organizations in two ways: Through Backward Brilliance — teaching leaders the Advantage Thinking skills to outthink their competition. For leaders who refuse to settle for incremental. Through LTV Insights — implementing those skills directly as Fractional CMO, Strategic Advisor, Board Advisor, and CMO Whisperer. For organizations done with average and ready for seismic. willhammond77@gmail.com | backwardbrilliance.com
